A message to the military

I would like to take a moment to thank the 48 million men and women who have served and 2.6 million who are currently serving in the U.S. armed forces.

The American Red Cross continually works with military families to send emergency communications to deployed service members on behalf of their family. Our hope is to give members of the military peace of mind - the knowledge that they are still connected to home.

When we were needed a few days ago at Fort Hood, the American Red Cross was able to step in, find families and give blood. We are here to serve.

On this Veteran's Day, please thank, hug or even fist bump a veteran. Without them, we would not be the country we are today.

Thank you.
