As American as FedEx, the NFL and the Red Cross

At the end of the 2014-2015 NFL season, we want to express our gratitude to FedEx for selecting the American Red Cross as the beneficiary of the weekly FedEx Air and Ground Player of the Week competition. With an incredible season from DeMarco Murray, the Red Cross here in DFW received $10,000 along with an additional $2,000 thanks to excellent play from Tony Romo. That's a lot of help for North Texans thanks to these great Dallas Cowboys!

Please take a few minutes to read about the many ways FedEx supports the Red Cross mission every day. http://www.redcross.org/news/article/Results-in-for-FedEx-Air-Ground-NFL-Players-of-the-Year

December is always a time where everyone's thinking about gift-giving, and the inevitable shopping that comes with it. Five Ways to Shop and Give this Holiday Season

This holiday season, Give Something that Means Something by supporting the American Red Cross while you shop.

Circle K West Coast and Florida Divisions, FedEx, Mazda and its Dealers, Target and AmazonSmile are all teaming up with the Red Cross to provide customers with an opportunity to give back during the holidays. Whether you are looking for special items for loved ones, stocking stuffers, or you need to ship gifts, these holiday sponsors are providing opportunities to give with meaning. The generosity of these companies, and their customers, will enable the Red Cross to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies every day.

Circle K West Coast and Florida Divisions

Throughout November and December, customers at Circle K locations on the West Coast and in Florida can make in-store donations to support the work of the Red Cross. Your spare change can add up to make a big difference this holiday season and year-round.

FedEx

FedEx customers across the country can check something off their holiday “to do” list when they Pack, Ship and Give this holiday season, and support the Red Cross at the same time. From November 28 through December 14, FedEx will give $1 to the Red Cross for every pack and ship transaction made at FedEx Office, up to $250,000.

Mazda and its Dealers

In the market for a vehicle this holiday season? Now through January 2, customers who purchase or lease a new Mazda vehicle may direct a $150 donation from Mazda to the Red Cross (among other participating charities) during the Mazda Drive for Good campaign.

Target

Now through the holiday season, for every limited-edition TOMS for Target apparel, accessory and home goods purchase made, Target will donate a blanket, a week of meals or a pair of shoes. When a customer purchases select items from the TOMS collection, Target will donate $5 to Red Cross Disaster Relief to help provide a blanket to someone in need. Not only can you find stylish gift items for loved ones, but your gift also provides a critical service to someone in need.

AmazonSmile

Support the Red Cross from the comfort of your own home this holiday season and beyond! Through this ongoing, year-round program, you may designate the Red Cross as your preferred charity, and 0.5% of the price of eligible items you purchase at smile.amazon.com will be donated to the Red Cross. You can also watch this short video to see how the Red Cross is using donations from AmazonSmile to help families in need.

The Red Cross Holiday Campaign runs through December 31 and offers additional ways to Give Something that Means Something.

Sixth-grade students at Cross Timbers Middle School got a special visit from NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin as part of a FedEx Racing “Race to Prepare” program at the school on Thursday. Approximately 250 students participated in an assembly presented by FedEx and the American Red Cross to teach students about the importance of being prepared for any emergency. As part of the program, 28 students competed in a “Race to Prepare” relay to build emergency kits containing items such as batteries, First Aid supplies, water, flashlights and whistles. Patti Davis, GCISD executive director of administration, kicked off the event with a district welcome. Guest speakers included Hamlin, driver of the #11 FedEx Toyota Camry; Kevin Sisk, senior manager of operations for FedEx Express; Leslie Palmer, interim chief executive officer of the American Red Cross North Texas Region; and Chief Steve Bass of the Grapevine Fire Department. Before the event, students were able to tour a vehicle display including an actual #11 FedEx Toyota Camry race car (now retired), a FedEx delivery truck, a Red Cross Hummer and a Grapevine fire truck.

“We are excited to be able to partner with FedEx and the American Red Cross to bring such a great program to our district,” Davis said. “GCISD has a comprehensive emergency management plan and we practice drills regularly to teach students how to respond to emergencies at school. Now, through this partnership, we are taking those efforts a step further to reinforce the importance of emergency preparedness at home and in our community.”

Each year, four cities from across the nation are selected to host a FedEx Racing “Race to Prepare” program in their community. The program works in conjunction with Red Cross efforts to educate and prepare the public for emergencies through the “Do More Than Cross Your Fingers” campaign. Both programs emphasize emergency preparedness through building emergency kits, creating a family communication and evacuation plans, and educating the community about disasters. Through this program, FedEx also announced a $10,000 donation to the North Texas chapter of the Red Cross to support local efforts throughout the community.
