The American Red Cross continually redefines how it communicates with its communities. We have heart-touching Facebook stories and Twitter weather alerts. Snazzy flickr pages and this lovely blog.

What will we think up next?

Well, I'm glad you asked.

Perhaps a leading edge way to contact a lot of people at once when blood is needed without relying on media to disseminate the message. Well, that’s just what we did.

The Red Cross Blood Services, South Central Division announced yesterday a new mobile media program that sends text messages about vital blood inventory levels, tips on a successful blood donation, early notification on new promotions, and allows subscribers to make their next donation appointment or locate a nearby blood drive.

How cool is that?!
